Be a time wizard who observes the past and the future
A magical adventure that explores the present, Modus Game, which has released games such as “Abbey: Broken Porcelain” and “Trinity 4”, has brought their latest game “Crystal Legends”. The game has a unique art style, with some American cartoon style to tell the story of a time wizard and partners through several different styles of city-states to stop the time queen of the fairy tale adventure.
Although the gameplay is a Japanese RPG, the graphics lean toward the American cartoon cartoon style. When the main character unleashes the time magic, the color tone of the screen will be divided into three kinds to represent the past, present and future, and will match the most suitable theme color for the plot of different time points. Such excellent graphics performance is believed to easily capture the hearts of most players.
Since it is a Japanese RPG, there must be adventures and companions. During the adventure, new companions will join our team, and each of them will have their own story to enrich the plot. In addition to the exciting main plot, each city we travel to has NPCs that allow us to dig into the story of the existence. The game’s core gameplay “Observe the Past and Future” also serves the plot of the adventure, learning about the NPC’s past and helping him learn about future developments to further enrich the game’s plot.
The turn-based combat inherits the classic tradition of Japanese RPGs, and the game also adds QTE gameplay to the monotonous command battles. Pressing the corresponding key at the right time can trigger two attacks, extra defense, hitting the way exponentially or substantially immune to damage. The system makes the somewhat monotonous strategy battles tense and exciting. And we can manipulate time to change the state of the enemy, making the battle more strategic.
The game has a lot of advantages but it is not perfect. The QTE during the battle tends to make us feel fatigued during the frequent battles in the later stages, and the enemies no longer change their mode due to time magic after the start of the third chapter, which makes people feel rushed in the battle. The game also has a lot of details to improve such as more loading time, less monster models and the lack of some of the battle sound effects, to know that this is a full voice coverage game.
Flawed, “Crystal Legends” is still a very good RPG, the depth of its main plot to pinpoint just the right, telling a fairy tale of joy and sorrow. The thorough voice overlay gives a viewing immersion experience. Although the combat aspect as well as the time magic with more will be a bit boring, but the idea is still very novel. I hope you don’t miss this inexpensive, but cost-effective Japanese RPG that can be experienced on all platforms.
